Its a Wonder that We Make It
By Jan Fawcett, MD
The June 2007 issue of Psychiatric Annals, guest edited by Beth Ellen Davis, MD, MPH, and Elisabeth M. Stafford, MD, focuses on dealing with major stresses in childhood. This months series was originally published in Pediatric Annals, a partner publication of Psychiatric Annals and, as you will note, was originally written for pediatricians. Although much of the developmental information will be familiar to you (and a good review), I believe the information will be interesting and useful. As a sample: Did you know that the United States ranks third among industrialized nations in the number of child deaths caused by maltreatment? The richest, most advanced nation?
